Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor \u2013 EGTS<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

An\u00a0Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor<\/b>\u00a0(EGTS)<\/b>\u00a0detects exhaust gas temperature, converts it into a voltage and feeds<\/p>

that voltage signal back to the engine\u00a0ECU<\/b>, in order to control engine conditions and effectively reduce emissions.
Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensors (EGTS)<\/b>\u00a0are located:<\/p>

  • T3<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 before the Turbocharger\u00a0(TBC)<\/b>.<\/li>
  • T4<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 after the Turbocharger\u00a0(TBC)<\/b>.<\/li>
  • T5<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 before\/after Diesel Oxidation Catalyst\u00a0(DOC)<\/b>.<\/li>
  • T6<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 before\/after Diesel Particulate Filter\u00a0(DPF)<\/b>\u00a0and Selective Catalytic Reduction\u00a0(SCR)<\/b>.<\/li>
  • TEGR<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 before\/after High-Pressure\u00a0EGR<\/b>\u00a0Cooling System.<\/li><\/ul>

    With the assistance of the different\u00a0EGTS<\/b>\u00a0signals, the exhaust gas treatment devices can operate in their optimal conditions and their functionalities are constantly verified (OBD \u2013 On-Board Diagnostics<\/b>).
    For instance:<\/p>

    • The Temperature Probes before and after the Turbocharger are used to verify whether a temperature decrease (approx. 150\u00b0C) occurred.<\/li>
    • The\u00a0DOC<\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a0SRC<\/b>\u00a0need to achieve a minimum operation temperature, respectively 140\u00b0C and 190\u00b0C.<\/li>
    • The temperatures before the turbocharger, after the\u00a0DPF<\/b>\u00a0and in the\u00a0DOC<\/b>\u00a0are also monitored in order to avoid overheating of these components.<\/li>
    • The performances of the temperatures after and before the\u00a0DPF<\/b>\u00a0(together with the Differential Pressure Sensor\u2019s signal) are used to verify a successful regeneration of that component.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      The signal is measured using a Voltage-Divider. Most ECUs use a 2.2 kOhms pull-up resistor.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

      • PT200:<\/b>\u00a0Platinum element with Positive Temperature Coefficient, which has a resistance of 200 Ohms at 0\u00b0C.<\/li>
      • MIC:<\/b>\u00a0Mineral Isolated Cable that separates the hot part from the cold part.<\/li>

        • Dashboard light for Particulate Filter and blinking light pre-heating<\/li>
        • Deterioration of Turbocharger, DOC, SCR components and DPF<\/li>
